Les pronoms
Pronouns can be tricky in French. They are placed differently than in English, and the pronouns, y and en, don't really exist in English. Review the websites in the below. Pronouns should be a review for you at this point in your studies of French. Nonetheless, pay attention to the following in regards to pronouns:
- Placement of the pronoun
- Which pronoun do you use? Direct object? Indirect object? Context and verbs are extremely important in making these determinations.
- Take a good look at the table. Hopefully, the table will help solidify your understanding of how to place French pronouns.
- What preposition is associated with the verb?
- For example, s'intéresser à :
- Je m'intéresse à la politique. = I am interested in politics.
- To replace à la politique you would use the pronoun y.
- Je m'y intéresse = I am interested in it.
- For example, s'intéresser à :
- It is really important to learn that different verbs and expressions call for certain prepositions.
