Le courriel électronique

The e-mail response portion of the AP French exam assesses your ability to reply to an e-mail by providing and soliciting information. This e-mail inquiry comes from someone with whom you are not friends or family; thus, you must use the formal register - vous. Just write vous in your exam booklet when you are on the e-mail response part of the AP French exam to remind yourself that your register must be formal.

5 essential components in your e-mail response:

  1. Salutation
  2. Response to the two questions (maybe more) posed to you in the e-mail prompt.
  3. Ask your own question in your response. Show elaboration.
  4. French civilités
  5. Closing

You will be penalized by the AP reader for forgetting any of the 5 components above. Remember that your response should enable a person who did not read the e-mail prompt to know what the subject matter is. You only have 15 minutes for this part of the AP French exam. Measure yourself and be sure to keep 2 minutes at the end for you to proofread your e-mail response.

Diacritical Marks - A reminder

Diacritical marks are an aid to pronunciation, proper spelling, and help distinguish some sets of words that are otherwise spelled alike but different in meaning or grammatical usage. For these reasons, GaVS World Language students, at all levels of language development, are assessed on the proper use of diacritical marks or accent marks in their chosen language of study.

This activity requires that you use diacritical marks (accents) when necessary. Please ensure that you can type accents correctly to benefit fully from this practice activity. Failure to type accents, when necessary, will result in the item being marked as incorrect. Research online how to type accents and choose the system that works best for you. There are many ways to type French diacritical marks - it depends on your computer type, your software, and your preferences.
