Révision du subjonctif

Introduction - Review the subjunctive mood in French. As you may recall, the subjunctive is used a lot in French. Earlier, impersonal expressions and certain verbs were introduced that take the subjunctive. Remember the acronyms JEF, PANDO, POD. Review the forms of the subjunctive mood and those impersonal expressions.

Explication - There are several conjunctions that take the subjunctive in French. The list below is not exhaustive, but many of the most commonly used conjunctions are included. Focus on these conjunctions. Note: not all conjunctions take the subjunctive. Pay close attention to the tables below, looking at what is subjunctive and what is not.

The following ARE subjunctive conjunctions and they generally link cause and effect.

We are going to wait until his mother is there.

bien que

although

Bien que tu sois très gentil, je ne suis pas amoureuse de toi.

Although you are very nice, I am not in love with you.

à condition que

provided that

Il va m'emmener à la fête à condition que tu viennes aussi.

He is going to take me to the party provided that you come, too.

quoi que

whatever

Quoi que tu nous dises, nous n'allons pas te croire.

Whatever you tell us, we are not going to believe you.

We are going into the city whereas we have no desire to go there.

puisque

since, as

Puisque j'ai un peu d'argent en plus, je vais au cinéma.

Since I have a little bit of extra money, I am going to the movies.

quand

when

Quand tu seras chez moi, nous irons à la plage.

Where you are at my place, we will go to the beach.
