Looking Back

You have come a long way since you first learned to read hiragana あ and say "konnichiwa!" to your teachers and classmates. In this module, we are going to revisit some of the materials you learned in previous lessons. Because you may not use Japanese on a daily basis, it is important to review and expand to the next level. Remember that language learning is like building muscles. You have to keep working on them or they will become weak and flabby.

Essential Questions:

  • Can you use different greetings for times of the day and to different people?
  • Can you introduce yourself and understand others' self-introductions?
  • Can you count 1-9,999?
  • Can you express your preferences and abilities to do things?
  • Can you ask and state different time of the day, days of the month, days of the week, and months of the year?
  • Can you talk about sports, music, weather, clothing, and shopping?
  • Can you comprehend a short paragraph in Japanese on a familiar topic?

Goals

By the end of this module, for listening and speaking skills, you will review greetings, age and grades, numbers, schedules, and express wants, likes and dislikes, ability to do things. For reading and writing skills, you will write a short self-introduction in Japanese and comprehend written materials containing hiragana, katakana, and some kanji on the familiar topics.
