Music, Part 2: Practice

Let's take some time to practice what we've learned in this lesson.

INTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES

The directions for the activities below are written with the idea of you working with a partner. If you do not have a partner available, complete the practice on your own, completing both parts of the activity as well as you can.

Tsugi-no katakana-o yonde kudasai.

Do this reading activity with a partner. Partner A begins by saying, “Ichi-ban” and reads aloud any set of 3 katakana in order. Both Partner A and Partner B write “1” in the correct box. Then Partner A says, “Tsugi-no katakana-o yonde kudasai.” Partner B selects another set, says, “Niban,” and reads the 3 katakana in order. Both partners write “2” in the correct box. If you need to have your partner repeat a line, say, “Moo ichi-do yonde kudasai.” Continue taking turns until you have finished. Compare your answers after you have completed half of the sets. Then compare the rest of the answer after you have finished.

Ongaku-ga suki desu-ka?

Do this activity in pairs. Take turns asking your partner the following questions in any order. Read the question to yourself silently, look up at your partner, and ask the question. Do not read the question to your partner. Sample answers are provided, but use these only for guidance. Answer all questions truthfully.

Ongaku-ga suki desu-ka? Hai, daisuki desu.
Ongaku-wa nani-ga ichiban suki desu-ka? Kurashikku-ga ichban suki desu.
Shizuka-na ongaku-ga suki desu-ka? Iie, anmari suki ja nai desu.
Rokku-ga suki desu-ka? Hai, suki desu.
Piano-ga dekimasu-ka? Iie, zenzen dekimasen.
Koto-wa Nihon-no gakki desu-ka? Hai, soo desu.
Tokidoki uta-o utaimasu-ka? Hai, tokidoki utaimasu.
Gakki-wa nani-ga dekimasu-ka? Gakki-wa dekimasen.
Shiidii*-o kikimasu-ka? Iie, kikimasen.
Hebii metaru-wa urusai desu-ka? Hai, urusai desu.

Vocabulary review

Silently review the vocabulary words below. Then have a クラスメート orally test your knowledge of the words (in mixed order). Your partner says the えいご, and you give the にほんご. Do half, and then switch and test your partner.

Write each of the following sentences in roomaji. After you finish all of the sentences, check your work by finding the identical sentences in this lesson. Then write the sentences in hiragana. Then find the answers among the sentences at the bottom of this page.

What musical instrument can you play?

Write the following in roomaji as two sentences (question and answer). Leave spaces between the words, but affix the particles to the preceding nouns. Then write the sentences in English.
