School Life

You might think you had enough lessons about schooling and school subjects in Japan. However, there are some aspects in Japanese school we have not learned much about yet: after school activities. Club activities in middle schools and high schools can be quite serious matters in the lives of Japanese students. So don't write off this module yet, because you will find it quite interesting.

Essential Questions:

  • Can you talk about daily school life including school schedules and club activities?
  • How do you ask for and give permission with different expressions?
  • How do you ask and state where things are located?
  • How do you talk about one's housekeeping?
  • Can you explain what obento is?
  • Can you read the kanji 月日木本人山川大小学校中高?

Goals

By the end of this module, for listening and speaking skills, you will be able to talk about daily school life including school schedules and club activities, ask for and give permission with different expressions, ask and state where things are located, and talk about one's housekeeping. For reading and writing skills, you will be introduced to more kanji characters and learn how to read and write words, phrases, and sentences containing hiragana, katakana, and specific kanji.
