GEO: Overview
Geography
Japan's natural features definitely attract people from all over the world. The distinct seasonal differences have provided inspiration to many of Japan's artists throughout history. Katsushika Hokusai's (1760-1849) paintings show his love of and fascination with Mount Fuji throughout various seasons of the year. In this module, you will learn how to describe some of the natural wonders and beauties of Japan as well as of the world.
Essential Questions:
- Can you name some countries and six continents of the world?
- How do you ask and say what language someone speaks or where someone is from?
- How do you ask about and state locations using cardinal directions?
- Can you describe people, places, and objects using the superlative?
- Can you identify certain natural features including principal geographic features of Japan?
- Can you read the kanji月 日 木 本 人 山 川 大 and 小?

Goals
By the end of this module, for listening and speaking skills, you will be able to name some countries and six continents of the world, ask and say what language someone speaks or where someone is from, ask about and state locations using cardinal directions, and describe people, places, and objects using the superlatives. For reading and writing skills, you will be able to read key kanji compounds and comprehend written materials containing hiragana, katakana, and some kanji.
