What is donna? Donna means what kind of and can be used directly in front of a noun.
Grammar Activity - Negative Forms of Adjectives
Do you remember there were two kinds of adjectives in Japanese? They are i-adjectives and na-adjectives. When they are in negative forms, they have distinctly different endings.
The negative of na -adjectives
Drop -na at the end and add ja nai as in:
- kantan-na
- drop -na + ja nai
- kantan-na - na = kantan
- kantan + ja nai => kantan ja nai
- kantan ja nai
- Hiragana: かんたんじゃない
- drop -na + ja nai
- kirei-na => kirei ja nai
- Hiragana: きれいじゃない
- shizuka-na => shizuka ja nai
- Hiragana: しずかじゃない
Let's compare this with the negative of i -adjectives.
The negative of i -adjectives
Drop i at the end and add kunai as in:
- omoshiroi
- -i + kunai
- omoshiroi - i => omoshiro
- omoshiro + kunai => omoshirokunai
- omoshirokunai
- Hiragana: おもしろくない
- -i + kunai
- hayai => hayakunai
- Hiragana: はやくない
- ookii => ookikunai
- Hiragana: おおきくない)
