Kanji Reading Other Uses and Explanation
日本 This combination of 日 (sun, day) and 本 (origin, book) reads as nihon or nippon and it means Japan. From this word, you can also make 日本人 (Japanese person) 、日本語 (Japanese language).
好き This combination of 好 (like) and き reads as suki and it means like, is pleasing. 好き is a part of an adjective 好きな and you can make many phrases expressing your likes such as 好きな人 (a person one likes, loves) and 好きなもの (things one likes).
大好き This combination of 大 (big, large) , 好 (like) and き reads as daisuki and it means like very much, is pleasing very much. When one wants to express utmost preference of something or someone, this word is used.
This kanji 何 (what) is read as nan or nani and it means what. "nan" is used in combination with many counters such as 何じ (what time), 何さい (how old), 何人 (how many people), and 何日 (what day).
何 曜 (よう) 日 This combination of 何 (what) , 曜 (week) and 日 (sun, day) reads as nan-yoobi and it means what day of the week. It is used in an interrogative sentence.

  • 月曜 (よう) 日: This combination of 月 ( moon, month ) , 曜 (week) and 日 (sun, day) reads as getsu-yoobi and it means Monday.
  • 火曜 (よう) 日: This combination of 火 ( fire) , 曜 (week) and 日 (sun, day) reads as ka-yoobi and it means Tuesday.
  • 水曜 (よう) 日: This combination of 水 ( water ) , 曜 (week) and 日 (sun, day) reads as sui-yoobi and it means Wednesday.
  • 木曜 (よう) 日: This combination of 木 ( tree ) , 曜 (week) and 日 (sun, day) reads as moku-yoobi and it means Thursday.
  • 金曜 (よう) 日: This combination of 金 ( moon, month ) , 曜 (week) and 日 (sun, day) reads as kin-yoobi and it means Friday.
  • 土曜 (よう) 日: This combination of 土 ( earth ) , 曜 (week) and 日 (sun, day) reads as do-yoobi and it means Saturday.
  • 日曜 (よう) 日: This combination of 日 (sun, day) , 曜 (week) and 日 (sun, day) reads as nichi-yoobi and it means Sunday.
