Table Design Module Overview

 

 

Web designers are always thinking of options and features to showcase data on a website. You have discovered how image maps can be used to provide information while adding visual appeal to a web page. How can you, as a web designer, avoid using too much text on page? Um...ever consider using tables to display data? If that has not been a consideration, you now will have the opportunity to experience this option. This module will provide you with guidelines for table use as it relates to web design. You will learn how to create and format tables with HTML attributes.

Key Terms

  1. Caption - a line of text used to describe the table.  
  2. Cell padding - the space between the cell contents and the cell border.  
  3. Cell spacing - the amount of space between table cells.  
  4. Cell spanning - joining cells together to make a larger cell.  
  5. Frameset - a single web page constructed from multiple HTML files.
  6. Inline frame (I-frame) - the process of embedding one HTML file into another.  
  7. Jigsaw layout - breaking up the page content into separate table cells that are joined together like pieces in a jigsaw puzzle.  
  8. Spanning cell - when a single cell occupies more than one row or one column in the table.  
  9. Tracer lines - the dotted lines used for cell divisions.
