- Ud. is an abbreviation from an ancient Spanish phrase meaning: "Vuestra Merced" - Your Grace - used to address royalty (i.e., kings, queen, etc.)
- In the formal Ud. and Uds. are used to address individuals as a sign of respect. It is close to English's "sir / madam".
- In the informal tú (you) and vosotros (all of you; mainly in Spain) are used to address individuals you know on a first name basis. It is an informal form of address.
