Education and Licensing Requirements
Education
Many management-level careers in banking require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration. These academic programs develop analytical skills and teach financial analysis methods and technology. While banks may now seek graduates with master's degrees, banks typically fill branch manager positions by promoting experienced loan officers and other professionals who excel in their jobs.
The customer service careers in banks often require no more than a little college or a high school diploma. Bank employees at all levels go through nearly continuous training to keep up with all of the rules and regulations that affect banking. The American Banking Institute offers diplomas and certificates through online classes and in-bank training to bank employees across the country.
Licensing
With the exceptions of financial analyst positions which may require an employee to be a certified public accountant and mortgage brokers who are required to be licensed in most states, most bank careers have no licensing requirements. However, a number of banks encourage their employees to obtain diplomas and certification through American Banking Institute courses. Be sure to read the reasons for becoming certified.
