Telling Time

In a small country like Japan with 130 million people living in it, things have to run like clockwork. Take a look at their railway system. Its precision of arrival and departure time is always amazing, and riding one of their trains, especially the world famous bullet trains, is fascinating for many foreign visitors, but understanding the train schedule takes a bit of skill. First of all, you will need to know how to tell time. In this module, you will learn to tell time to the minutes, so you won't miss your ride.

  • How do you tell time on the hour, half hour, and to the minute?
  • How do you tell what time activities begin and end?
  • Do you know if it is important to be punctual in Japan?

Goals

By the end of this module, for listening and speaking skills, you will be able to ask for the time, to tell time on the hour, half hour, and to the minute. You will also be able tell what time activities begin and end.  For reading and writing skills, you will learn to read and write in hiragana with small やゆよ and らりるれろ . For cultural understanding, you will learn about the importance of being on time.
