The Dative Case - In Practice
Remember...
- nominative case = subjects
- accusative case = direct objects
- dative case = indirect objects
Take note of one exception: when plural nouns are used in the dative case, the noun itself will add an "N" to the end of the noun.
For example:
- Die Mutter gibt den Kindern ein Eis.
- The mother is giving the children ice cream.
The dative case also affects simple pronouns; the visual organizer depicts these important changes, and, as with the articles, all pronoun forms change in the dative case from their base or nominative forms.
Note: In the image, N = nominative; A = accusative; D = dative
