EUT: Introduction
Essen und Trinken
This module will introduce you to the culture of German cuisine and the language used when describing, requesting or ordering food and beverages in German.
Traditional German food is often described as herzhaft or deftig (hearty, substantial), and, considering Germany's large consumption of sausages, meat dishes, potatoes, hundreds of bread varieties, and, of course, beer and sauerkraut, food and drink create a rich element of German culture, known and beloved the world over. Let's take a closer look now at the food culture in German-speaking Europe and the language needed to express yourself in situations involving food and drink.
Essential Questions:
- How do you talk about food in German and what can you expect when you are invited for dinner?
- What is it like to go to a restaurant in a German-speaking country?
- What is it like to go to a supermarket in a German-speaking country?
