The 4 possible responses indicate the following:

• no change in past participle means that there is no change in the past participle (nothing is added)
• add -e means that an -e must be added to the past participle
• add -s means that an -s must be added to the past participle
• add -es means that -es must be added to the past participle

Remember you have to make the past participle agree with the subject for verbs that take "être" as the helping (auxiliary) verb.
