Introduction

Contemporary Life as it relates to a typical city.

Habitez-vous dans le nord? Dans le sud ? Près de la côte ? Dans une grande ou petite ville ? Votre ville a quel âge ? Avez-vous déjà pensé à habiter dans une ville francophone ? Qu'est-ce qu'il y a dans une ville typique en France ? Considérez-vous que la France est un pays très vieux? L' Île-de-France, la région où se trouve la ville de Paris, est habitée depuis 40 000 ans ! Imaginez la taille d'une ville typique, les façades des bâtiments, les rues, les entreprises, les transports. Est-ce similaire ou différent de votre région ?

Overview

In this module, we will explore the layout of a typical town in France, how to interact with vendors, and how to get around so that we can compare that to our own communities. You will listen to and read many dialogues and texts in French to improve your command of French. You will also learn to:

• Talk about the city and the country side
• Identify different types of buildings
• Use direct object (DO) pronouns in French
  • Note: remember the abbreviation DO as it will be used frequently when referring to direct object pronouns.
• Talk about shopping
• Express need
• Improve your understanding of avoir expressions
• Talk about public transportation and various modes of transportation
• Use the y & en pronouns
• Narrate in the past tense using le passé composé
• Improve your reading and listening comprehension in French
