ART - Parts of a Sentence Lesson

Parts of a Sentence Lesson

Every sentence has a subject and a predicate. Being able to identify these parts of a sentence ensures that your writing is effective and clear. This skill will also improve your ability to read difficult and lengthy sentences in the readings in this course and in the future.

A simple subject is the main noun or pronoun that tells what the sentence is about. A simple predicate is a verb or verb phrase that tells something about the subject.

Andrea read from the book Of Mice and Men. "Andrea" is the subject. "Read" is the simple predicate.

The following presentation reviews four parts of a sentence: direct objects, indirect objects, predicate nominatives, and predicate adjectives. Please study the presentation carefully and take notes as needed.
