Introduction

The news today has become more of a conversation. This means that journalists often have to listen to the community in order to determine what should be broadcasted. News, in some way, has always revolved around what the community needs to know or should know, but now these same conversations are happening online and within social media. Journalists no longer focus just on gathering the information and producing a story. Now they have to become a part of the conversation because they need to be a part of it in order to successfully report the news; however, this doesn't always come without some mistakes.

Twitter Missteps

Professional media mistakes with social media.

During the 2010 World Cup CNN created a Twitter Buzz. The more a player, team or topic was tweeted, the bigger their picture on the screen became. During the tournament, over 11 million World Cup related tweets were posted. At its peak, more than 13,000 tweets a minute appeared when England played the U.S.
