 Photography Techniques and Mood Lesson

Introduction

Taking a photo is more than just aiming the camera and shooting. Good pictures don't usually happen by chance. As a photographer, you may arrange the elements of a photo in an effort to catch a viewer's attention, make a statement, or simply remember a moment. Therefore, it is important when producing a photo to be aware of movement, life, shape, and form.
Photos also help create a mood. For example, photos highlighting sunsets and sunrises often create a calm, tranquil mood; however, a photo of a frenzied street in the city would create a tense, overwhelming mood. Photos that create a mood require an audience to be an active participant. They zero in on the viewers' emotional response and connection to the subject. Let's look closely at an example of the mood that is created based on the subject, the background, and the light.
