Introduction to Latin IB
In the Latin IA course, we began a story about a soldier named Decimus. We helped Decimus complete tasks to become a soldier in the Roman army, including completing the recruitment process, joining a legion, completing training and marching exercises, and earning the position of faber - military engineer. Click through the tabs below to review additional details. This course will continue the story of Decimus.
Dates
In this course, we use the dating method based on Common Era. Thus, you will see the following dating abbreviations consistently throughout the course:
- BCE = before common era (equivalent to B.C.)
- CE = common era (equivalent to A.D.)
Note on Iter Decimi (Decimus' Journey)
The Latin I course is designed around a central story-line to guide you through the lessons you will be learning. The main character is named Decimus, a 20 year old Roman citizen who is joining the Roman army. As Decimus advances through the ranks of the Roman military, you will be learning about Latin grammar and vocabulary, but also about Roman culture and history.
