Overview - Decimus' Journey

The story of Decimus reminds us of the great influence Rome has on the modern world. While Decimus himself is a fictional character, his journey highlights the culture that made ancient Rome great. Today the Arch of Titus, located just outside the Forum Romanum, honors Emperor Titus. The emperor unexpectedly died in 81 CE shortly after the opening of Flavian amphitheater. He had ruled for only two short years. The Roman empire continued be ruled by various emperors until around 476 CE. Today Rome is often referred to as urbs aeterna or Roma aeterna: the eternal city. Certainly the legacy of the Latin language and the culture of ancient Rome continues to inspire the modern world today.
