Overview - Decimus' Journey
A few hours after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, Decimus rejoins his legion on a search and rescue mission. They must search Pompeii for survivors, despite the terrible conditions. He soon discovers how vast the destruction has been and despairs for the fate of Flavia and her friends. His commander is unaccounted for as well. News quickly arrives that the Emperor will travel to Pompeii to survey the damage.

Key Terms
- Verb - A verb, from the Latin verbum meaning word, is traditionally defined as a word that conveys an action or state of being. In Latin, a verb is a word that uses endings which indicate five characteristics, person, number, tense, voice and mood; it additionally has non-finite uses (infinitive, participle, gerund).
- Person - The point of view of the subject, 1st, 2nd or 3rd person
- Number - Singular or Plural
- Tense - The time of action of the verb
- Conjugation - A family of verbs
- Voice - Active or Passive
- Mood - How the verb is used in a sentence. The three moods are Indicative, Imperative, Subjunctive
- Principal Parts - The essential forms of a Latin verb. They provide verbs stems.
- Verb Stem - The basic form of a verb on which endings will be added. There are two main stems, present and perfect. The stems are obtained from the principal parts
- Infinitive - The 2nd principal part of a verb, translates to + verb meaning. It is a verbal noun.
- Present System - System of tenses formed on the present stem. Tenses include Present, Imperfect and Future.
- Present Tense - Action occurring at the same time
- Imperfect Tense - Continual action occurring in the past
- Future Tense - Action that will occur at a later time
- Irregular Verb - A verb that does not follow a regular pattern
- Perfect System - System of tenses formed on the perfect stem. The tenses include perfect, pluperfect (past perfect) and future perfect
- Perfect Tense - A past completed action
- Pluperfect Tense - An action which occurred earlier than a previously referenced past action (had)
- Future Perfect Tense - An action that will occur before another referenced future action (will have)
- 3rd-io (I-stem) - a special subset of 3rd conjugation verbs
- Personal Pronoun - a set of pronouns that indicate person - 1st (I, We), 2nd (You) and 3rd (He, She, It, They).
- Vesuvius - volcano located near Pompeii and Herculaneum
- Pompeii - Roman city in central Italy near modern day Naples
