Overview - Decimus' Journey
Decimus and the other recruits must now travel on the Via Appia heading south from Rome. They are meeting up with the military cohort. Decimus will need to complete basic training exercises, including marching up to 20 miles a day. His first challenge will be to help in fixing a section of the Via Appia, one of Rome's main roads. Join in to help Decimus repair the road. Once he does, he will be allowed to take the military oath, thanks to your support!

Key Terms
- Verb- A verb, from the Latin verbum meaning word, is traditionally defined as a word that conveys an action or state of being. In Latin, a verb is a word that uses endings which indicate five characteristics: person, number, tense, voice and mood; it additionally has non-finite uses (infinitive, participle, gerund).
- Person- The point of view of the subject, 1st, 2nd or 3rd person
- Number- Singular or Plural
- Tense- The time of action of the verb
- Conjugation- A family of verbs
- Voice- Active or Passive
- Mood- How the verb is used in a sentence: Indicative (used for statements and questions), Imperative (used for commands), Subjunctive (used for wishes, hopes, and potential or possible situations)
- Principal parts- The essential forms of a Latin verb which provide verb stems
- Verb stem- The basic form of a verb on which endings will be added. There are two main stems: present and perfect. Stems are obtained from the principal parts
- Infinitive- The 2nd principal part of a verb, translates to + verb meaning. It is a verbal noun
- Present system- System of tenses formed on the present stem: present, imperfect and future tenses
- Present tense- Action occurring at the same time
- Imperfect tense- Continual action occurring in the past
- Future tense- Action that will occur at a later time
- Irregular Verb- A verb that does not follow a regular pattern
- Via Appia- One of Rome's main roads that connects Rome to Brundisium.
