Key Terms
- Monarchy- The earliest period of ancient Roman history (753 BC - 509 BC) beginning with the rule of Romulus through the ousting of the 7th king Tarquinius Superbus.
- Republic - The period of ancient Roman history (509 BC - 27 BC) in which the Roman government was comprised of 2 annually elected consuls and the senate.
- Empire - The final period of ancient Roman history (27 BC - 476 AD) ruled by an Emperor.
- Diphthong -A special two vowel combination which together makes one sound.
- Syllable - Number of speech sounds in a word
- Accent- Emphasis given to a syllable in a word
- Present Tense - Describes an action or event in the present time
- Irregular Verb - A verb whose conjugation does not follow a typical pattern
- Infinitive - Provides the basic meaning of a verb; a verbal noun
- Person- Referring to 1st, 2nd or 3rd point of view
- Number- Singular or plural
- Translate- Communication of meaning from one language to another
