(AP) Alternative Process Overview
Alternative Processes
What do alternative processes mean? In general, it means any non-traditional means of creating a photographic print. The traditional printing process for analog photography is silver gelatin and the traditional printing processes for digital photography are pigment prints (archival grade inkjet print on fine art paper) and c prints (a color photographic paper which is also a silver process). Anything beyond this can be considered an alternative process. This includes historical processes like cyanotype, tin type, van dyke, carbon transfer, daguerreotype, gum bichromate, platinum, and on and on.
