In this module, we will study the following topics:
Key Terms
- Full Frame: Refers to a digital camera sensor that is the same size as a piece of 35mm film
- Megapixel: One million pixels
- Aspect Ratio: The ratio of height to width. This is used to describe the crop of a printed photograph, the size of a negative, and the size of a digital camera sensor.
- Burst mode: a camera setting that will continue taking photos as long as the shutter button is pressed.
- Digital zoom: the zoom effect is achieved through software not physical parts of the camera. Optical is always better than digital.
- File format: How your camera lens will record the image file. Raw files contain more information than JPGs and are more suitable for editing.
- Noise: Flecks in an image similar to grain. Images taken at high ISOs have a lot of noise.
- RAW: Considered a digital negative and gives the photographer more control over photo editing. Special software is required to open RAW files.
- Pixel: one dot of information in a digital photograph.
