  • Most immigrants come to find a better job and a chance for a better life.
  • They helped the economy of Georgia by spending their money in local stores and housing.
  • Georgia’s economy has grown tremendously since the 1990s, partly due to new immigrant communities within the state.
  • Immigrant workers are essential to the poultry industry, which is the largest agricultural industry in the state. The carpet industry also welcomed immigrants due to a labor shortage in the 1990s. Currently half of the carpet workers are Hispanic immigrants.
  • Georgia’s foreign-born population has increased from 1990 to 2000 by 233%.
  • More than 50% of Georgia’s immigrants came from Mexico and other Latin American countries.
  • Other Immigrants range from a variety of locations such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
