Impact of Andrew Young
 icon Andrew Young left a legacy through his involvement in business, politics, and civil rights demonstrations. During the 1950s and 1960s he organized voter registration and desegregation efforts in Albany and other cities. He worked alongside Martin Luther King, Jr. in the SCLC. President Jimmy Carter named Andrew Young ambassador to the United Nations in 1977. In 1981, he was elected mayor of Atlanta. He finished his career by helping to bring the 1996 Summer Olympics to Atlanta.

Andrew Young created a lasting legacy for African Americans in Georgia. He served alongside Martin Luther King, Jr. in desegregation and Civil Rights actions. He represented the nation as one of the first African American Congressmen and later served as the United Nations Ambassador under President Jimmy Carter. Today he is still impacting the minds of Georgian’s through his founding of the Andrew Young School of Public Policy at Georgia State University.
