GOG - Markets and Transportation (Lesson)

Markets and Transportation

Introduction

The key transportation systems of Georgia allow for the growth of jobs for Georgians. Georgia has two deep water ports, Brunswick and Savannah, and two inland barge terminals, Bainbridge and Columbus. These waterways provide Georgia with 1.8 billion in annual income and over 81,000 jobs. The interstate highway system connects our nation and our markets. It takes two shipping days for our truckers to reach 79% of all markets in the United States. Hartsfield Jackson International Airport provides a plethora of employment opportunities ranging from pilots, clerks, and aircraft mechanics. The US Department of Commerce believes 16,000 jobs are created from every $1 billion of goods exported. With the success of our transportation industry Georgia has a successful future.
