Mao Zedong came to power after his Long March where only 8,000 soldiers survived the 7,000-mile journey. Mao Zedong established the People’s Republic of China and the original government fled to Taiwan to escape. Mao was a brutal leader and executed anyone who disagreed with him. He sent millions to labor camps where they died. The Great Leap Forward was the plan to industrialize China but led to the starvation of an estimated 40 people. The Cultural Revolution was set as his comeback to re-dedicate the people of China under the Communist party.
