Production, Distribution, and Consumption Lesson
As we continue to move through the course themes, you will begin to understand that the location, customs, beliefs, and laws of the society affect the production, distribution, and consumption of goods/services produced by the society. When we look at each region, take the time to ask yourself the following questions:
What are the elements that make up an economy?
How are the things you want to buy produced?
How do stores get the things you want to buy?
How do you decide what to buy?
What factors determine the price of the things you want to buy?
Four Types of Economic Systems
As we explore the economies of different regions, we will be looking at what the four different types of economic systems have in common. We will explore the connection between different government structures and economic systems and how it affects the prosperity of the region.

Production, Distribution, and Consumption Challenge
Take a minute to look at the shirt you are wearing. Read the tag. Where does it say it was manufactured?
Locate that country on the map and think how did it arrive at the store where it was purchased?
Take Away
When we go to the store, we see products that are produced around the world. This theme is extremely relevant to our day-to-day life. Without globalization, many foods and items would not be available in the United States. It is important to remember that production and consumption are key parts of a country’s economy. A strong economy helps citizens have a higher standard of living. We will look at how each region specializes in different products to sell to consumers.
