Resolving Legal Disputes: Civil Law

Introduction

We have talked about the origination of our laws and the court systems. We will now begin to dig deeper into the types of law. There are two primary categories of law – civil law and criminal law. There are various types of law that fall within these two categories. In this module, we will focus on defining civil law and the procedures and processes used to address a private or civil wrong. We will also review some of the more significant civil law cases and their impact on society and the precedent set in our judicial system. In looking ahead further into the course, we will focus on in more depth the various types of law that make up the civil law component of our legal system.
