Forms of Energy

Introduction

Dam.jpg

In this lesson students will link their learnings from science classes to be able to identify different forms of energy. Each form of energy has properties of either kinetic or potential energy. An energy source is converted through either potential or kinetic energy means to another form for power generation. This is called energy transformation.

Energy comes from different sources that can be grouped as different forms. These forms vary in the ability to transport or transmit energy. Some are potential energy sources and some are kinetic energy. In this grouping of forms of energy, some have capabilities of both. All require some sort of transformation to be used for power generation. In all cases, losses occur in transmission and creation of energy and power. Overall this energy is used for the electrical grid, electrical components, mechanical devices, and manufacturing.
