(EDP) Evaluate, Iterate, and Communicate Lesson
Evaluate, Iterate, and Communicate Lesson
Introduction
Completing the Process
In this lesson students will fulfill study of the design process through completion of the cardboard chair design challenge project assignment. These remaining stages/steps of the process will be covered in this lesson.
- Evaluate – Test the prototype for functionality and performance to the expectations of the design. Document test results and observations.
- Refine Design – Make design improvements or rework the prototype design. This is the iterative process that will look back to evaluation, and then either cycle again or consider the product is complete.
- Communicate – Develop effective and complete documentation of the product solution and share the solution to stakeholders.
When completed with the Cardboard Chair Design Challenge, students will create and share their results through a presentation and discussion.

Take Away
Probably the most challenging aspect of this module has been the use of corrugated cardboard sheets as the required material for the design challenge for this module. Now since you have worked through the process, describe at least 3 reasons why cardboard is a good choice for this design challenge.
Answers can include:
- Cardboard is an inexpensive material.
- Cardboard is readily available material.
- Cardboard does not require any special tools or fasteners.
- To understand characteristics of corrugated cardboard that contribute to strength.
- To accomplish a seemingly impossible feat.
- To think outside of traditional solutions.
- Learning that design can be more crucial than material.
- To focus on the design process rather than perfection of the product.
