Test your knowledge of educational qualifications for engineering by taking the self check below- Answer true or false to the statements below:
One does need a college degree to work as an engineer or engineering technician. |
The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) is a governmental organization only based in Georgia. |
Once a college or university is accredited by the ABET the accreditation never goes away. |
Academic requirements for a BS in engineering require successful completion of several terms of Calculus and likely several terms of Physics and Chemistry. |
The Georgia Regents’ Engineering Pathway only provides the opportunity for students to complete an Associate’s degree in Engineering. |
Take Away
The Regents Engineering Pathway allows high school students who are accepted at one of the major engineering universities to attend local RTP Partner institutions (i.e., some local colleges) for the first couple of years for basic college and introductory engineering courses.
Consider the reasons why the Georgia Board of Regents established the Regents Engineering Pathway for graduating high school students interested in engineering?
Reason 1- Students in the Regents Engineering Pathway have the benefit of starting at a lower cost college close to home instead of the more expensive universities. This provides the ability to save on room, board, and transportation expenses.
Reason 2- This lower cost allows a greater number of students to participate in the engineering program.
Reason 3- Students may have a need in the family to be close to home.
Reason 4- The expectations and distractions of college are very different from high school. Transition from high school to smaller colleges are often more successful than a student starting at a large university. Why? Professors are engaged in teaching vs research. Classes are often smaller. Students are closer to friends and family.
