Does investment in engineering and technology education benefit a society?

Evaluate the following graphic showing growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over the period of years shown. (Remember that a high GDP is considered a measure of economic success and more stable employment for a country.) Note in the period following 1850 the European countries shown were leading in the export of goods while China and India did not have a significant increase. At that time, the European nations were developing and expanding their engineering talent whereas India and China were not.

So yes, the European societies benefited from the development and expansion of the engineering talent necessary for continued industrial growth and economic prosperity.
