How We Develop Characters Who are Identifiable: Research and Character Development Lesson

Introduction

At this stage, you are ready to dive deep into your own ideas. You will spend some time researching historical and contemporary artists who inspire various methods of illustration. Then, it’s time to explore personal inspirations for your characters. Look to your life, draw your pets, a plant, or a yourself as a character. Develop that character into a vehicle to tell your story. This project has a lot of room for you to explore. So, dive in and have some fun!

Extension 

Character Development Extension

The general requirement for the character development is to provide two pages in your sketchbook with various expressions, positions, clothes, and environments.

To challenge yourself, try to make a grid of at least 9 squares per page and fill at least three pages of various expressions positions, etc. So, you would have a least 27 different small drawings exploring the various expressions of your character.

Have you developed your character to the point where you can image them in any position or scene? What would you change or improve?
