Now that you have completed the practice work, you are ready to plan the composition for your painting and begin painting. Have fun with this part. The more you put into the initial collage, the more you will like the finished outcome. Feel free to use old sketches or other random materials for your collage. Just continue to develop it with strong composition techniques in mind.

Process of Setting Up

In this video, we go through the process of setting up the collage and to begin the painting. We go through the process of drawing a value sketch of the plan for the painting. We discuss the process of picking colors and how to begin the painting.

To create a challenge for this painting, you are welcome to add more detail, shading, fabric, and/ or hands and faces. Start with how you create your collage. Adding more personal items or creating content about a social issue you are passionate about.

The painting can always be made more intricate and complicated. Taking the time to push yourself to make a more complicated work will give you a product that can shine in a portfolio.
