Overview of How Artists Use Color to Achieve Particular Effects Lesson
Introduction
Many of us are instinctually drawn to color and enjoy painting. However, being able to mix the colors you want takes practice and skill. In this module, we will look at how artists use color to inform the content of their work, how to create our own color chart and interactions. Then, we will develop a painting with a color harmony. You will have an opportunity to create a nice and fun painting!

Artist Research
Examine the painting, Queen Bee II, by Carrie Moyer. Complete a sketch of this painting in your sketchbook. Once you have drawn the painting, paint your sketch matching the colors in the original. This is called a “color study”. Use the paints provided to mix the exact colors matching each color as closely as possible.
Did you match the composition and colors to the original accurately?
