Landscape Drawing – How You Can Combine These Techniques to Create a Well Composed Drawing and Atmospheric and Linear Perspective Lesson

Introduction

After your practice work is complete, you will create a landscape showing both linear and atmospheric drawing. This will be done on one of the large drawing sheets. You will have a choice of creating a drawing in either one point or two point perspective.

Landscape Drawing Demonstration

It is now time to watch the Landscape Drawing Demonstration video. Take notes as you watch the video and reach out to your instructor with any questions.

This video goes through the process of setting up the landscape drawing. Students will need to study their reference pictures to make sure they understand how to approach the drawing. If the drawing is in two point perspective, students will need to extend the vanishing point on one or both sides. This can be done by adding scrap paper on the back of the drawing.

Begin the buildings by starting with verticals that are closer to the viewer. Add details carefully and make sure that you understand how to approach triangular rooftops and windows. Shade slowly from light to dark.

Extension

Buildings Extension

This drawing becomes more challenging by choosing buildings with immense detail. Think about adding buildings with shingles, oval windows, scalloped roof tops, etc. The challenge comes from the student’s choice of reference.

Did you add a large quantity of details with shading correctly in reference to the vanishing points? Are the details drawn to fade in space showing atmospheric perspective?
