Atmospheric Writing

Introduction

Cinematic writing requires the author to focus on creating visual worlds that may not be as prevalent in playwriting where the focus is always on character interaction and goals. Atmospheric writing works to create a specific mood, tone, or feeling about what is being experienced without relying on the character or action. In actor terms, the writer is attempting to establish the nature of the place or location.

Techniques for Establishing Atmosphere in Writing

In this presentation, we will talk about techniques for establishing atmosphere in writing, including descriptive details, sensory details, and establishing shots.  All of these writing passages can be found in the presentation guide, found below the video.
