Research of Fact in Multiple Genres

Introduction

But writing that way is not what multi-genre is about.
Multi-genre removes the lid of Pandora's Rhetorical Box.
Multi-genre twirls you and spins you and you hope the steps
the writer asks you to follow lead to fulfillment.
Multi-genre knows that feeling is first.
Multi-genre grooves on pulse, has flushed cheeks,
hair on the back of the neck that stands on end.
Multi-genre makes readers sit up in their chairs.
Multi-genre is not roast beef; it is ciappino.
It is less like mashed potatoes,
and more like red beans and rice.”

- Tom Romano

In this lesson, you will be introduced to concepts related to multi-genre research, including different categories of genres. In the next microlesson, we will put it all together and you will review a process for creating a multi-genre research project. Following, you will engage in your own multi-genre research project. Along the way, reach out to your instructor if you have any questions or need clarification on these concepts.

What is Multi-Genre Writing?

“Multi-genre pushes convention, challenges "This is the way writing is done," and the "Hey, wait a minute, you can't do that in a piece of writing" mentality.

A multi-genre research project is a collection of pieces—a cohesive series of written pieces in a variety of genres that look at different angles on the same question, topic, or theme. As mentioned in your overview, over the course of this module, you will select a topic and create a multi-genre research project, based on your topic and centralized around a theme or thesis. Let's explore a little more about the basics of multi-genre writing in the presentation below.

What Types of Genres Can I Use?

There are hundreds of different genres that you could use. In the activity below, you will find 5 main categories with examples of genres in each. Take some time to explore different types of genres that you may use for your project.
