Introduction
This lesson offers an overview of organizational communication and its importance to business operations. Organizational communication is defined as exchange of information within and outside the organization. At any given moment, there is probably some kind of information that is being exchanged somewhere in the organization. Business operations are at risk when there is a disruption in communication flow.
Have you ever been affected by the airline communication system outage? Because communication is crucial to the airline industry, flights have to be postponed until communication flow is restored. Let’s say your flight is delayed and you miss an important sales presentation. Because your organization loses an important sale, your company may have to downsize and fire people. As you can see, disruption in organizational communication can have the long-reaching effects not only on that organization but other companies and individuals as well.
