Leadership Traits and Qualities
Introduction-
Leaders often prove to be difference makers between success and failure of any company or organization. However, what are the leadership traits and qualities that make someone an efficient and effective leader? A good leader typically has a long-term vision, has the skills to turn abstract ideas into successful business outcomes, and knows how to guide others towards the vision.

This lesson provides an overview of effective leadership traits and qualities.
As you have learned in this course, there are many factors that determine the success of business operations. However, successful leaders have the skills to pull all factors together.
There are ten important qualities that successful leaders typically have:
- Honesty and Integrity
- Confidence and Ability to Inspire Others
- Commitment and Passion
- Communication Skills
- Decision-Making Abilities
- Accountability
- Ability to Delegate and Empower Others
- Creativity and Innovation
- Empathy
- Professional Skills
It is important to distinguish between the leader and follower behaviors and actions. Successful leadership is not just about the title and having people who report to you. Leadership is about motivating people to do more than they ever thought possible in pursuit of a common goal. If you are stuck to the status quo and lack vision, you are a follower. Even if you hold a leadership title, people won’t follow you if you are not able to lead.

Why are leadership skills important? The British Journal of Education 2015 study has suggested that the declining performance of hospitals in the United States may be contributed to the leadership skills of hospital CEOs.
