Introduction

Did you know that one of the most famous cases of copyright infringement is a legal battle between two tech giants, Apple and Microsoft? They have been both business partners and tough competitors for decades. Although Microsoft helped with Macintosh development, Apple refused to grant the copyright use rights for the graphical user interface. The lawsuit was finally decided in favor of Microsoft, after a lengthy expensive court battle.

Another type of fraud is plagiarism. For example, if you find information online and include it in your paper or project without giving proper credit, you are committing plagiarism, because you are using somebody else’s information and presenting it as your own.

Copyright infringement and plagiarism are two of the most common violations committed by people when conducting research and creating business documents. Both will get you in serious trouble!

This microlesson describes various intellectual property rights laws and consequences of plagiarism as well as offers suggestions for avoiding intellectual property rights violations and plagiarism.
