Assessment Portfolios

Introduction

Once a career pathway has been completed, students are eligible to attempt an end of pathway assessment to earn certification in the pathway field. Earning certification enhances the probability that students can earn jobs in the career field without having work experience. 

Assessment Portfolio

Showcasing work samples and providing well-written summary statements are great options for showcasing your abilities and skills. Earning certification in a specific area is an indicator of the student’s commitment and interest in pursuing a career in the specified field. Communicate with your school counselor to determine which end of course assessment has been designated for your pathway. The video below provides information on the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exam which is a requirement for students completing the Business and Technology career pathway.

 

The assessment ePortfolio can include a description of the exam and the requirements for earning certification. You can enhance the ePortfolio by providing images of the certifications or certification transcript.

As you consider other career related assessments, consider the following:

• Be knowledgeable about choosing the best assessment. Communicate with your teachers and school counselor to obtain a list of assessment options.
• Obtain information about the assessment format as it relates to the types of questions that will be featured (multiple choice, free-response, video-based requiring interactive feedback to demonstrate mastery, etc…).
• Access your favorite search engine website or the assessment’s agency website to locate information about practice exams.
• Acquire information about the cost of attempting the assessment. Inquire if waivers or discounts are available for students.
• Be knowledgeable of the time allowed to attempt the assessment, the score needed to pass, and testing locations.

Passing a certification assessment can increase an individual’s professional marketability and increase chances of job offers. If you have not considered attempting a career assessment, reconsider and begin to research options that would benefit you in your field of interest.
