The planning and penning processes are done and it is time to construct the presentation. What features do you use to make the presentation visually appealing so that your audience is impressed with your design and content? This lesson will introduce you to several features that can be used to create and enhance your presentation slides using Microsoft PowerPoint.

Presentation Tips

More than likely you have experience using presentation software. Most programs include the features that are needed to add, delete, format, and apply other basic options to presentation slides. Access the instructional resources below to discover design tips and basic features.

The presentation should be designed to showcase graphics and short points to enhance the presentation shared verbally. Apply the tips below to ensure your presentation does not take away from the message you are trying to project.

  • Limit bullet points and chunks of text.
  • Use SmartArt to showcase text.
  • Limit transitions and animations.
  • Select slide designs that are appropriate for your target audience.
  • Select colors appropriately – consider using colors that meet accessibility standards for users with visual disabilities.
  • Use tables to showcase numerical data.
  • Use relevant charts to communicate a message visually.

Takeaway

The presentation is used to enhance the message you are sharing with your audience. It is not necessary to include chunks of text that are included in the presentation notes. This practice distracts the audience and takes away from your presentation. Use presentation features to add graphics and enhance text. Include tables, charts, and videos to promote your message. Access video tutorials when you need assistance with features and you will be successful in your design efforts.
