Introduction

As documents are edited, some of the features such as settings and font styles will be identical. A faster and easier way to apply these settings is to use a macro.

 

Many Microsoft Office products allow users to automate frequently used features such as font selection and size, margin settings, headers, and other options by creating a macro. A macro is a group of sequential directives and actions combined into one command to automatically complete a task. Macros are great for individuals that design business documents because it enables the user to automate repetitive tasks.

The terms below are commonly used when working with macros.

  • Code -  a set of instructions and data for a computer program
  • Visual Basic for Applications -  a computer programming language and environment designed for use within Microsoft applications
  • Macro Project -  macros that are stored in a document or template
  • New Macro -   the default name for the macro project

Takeaway

Macros are great tools for individuals to utilize while designing documents. The user does not have to remember all the steps needed to add the document settings which will result in having more time to complete other office duties.
