Introduction
Social media, the use of computer technologies to facilitate the sharing of information, can be classified based upon the platform, access, or audience.
Social media has been around for some time but gained more popularity once introduced in digital format. As you research the history of social media, you will discover that the Six Degrees site was the first known digital social media program. The site allowed users to create a profile and friend other users. Since the establishment of that site in 1997, social media programs have flourished and can be categorized in many platforms.
